Suicides add to weekend of mourning

• Man hacked to death with axe
It was a sombre weekend all around for Namibia.

Over one of the busiest weekends in Namibia's history following the funeral of late president Hage Geingob, the Namibian Police have recorded a number of deaths by suicide.

In Eenhana, 47-year-old Levi Mudjanima’s body was found hanging from a tree.

At Masivi village in the Kavango East Region, Petrus Mahili (30) died by suicide. According to the police, he hanged himself.

Another suicide by hanging was reported after 60-year-old Joseph Iipinge Amalenge died in his shack in Okahao’s Vunguvungu location.

Hacked to death

Also in Vunguvungu, the body of Anna Joima Tilimekondjo Uushona (44) was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple cut wounds to her back and neck.

No arrests have been made, but police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, in Windhoek's Wanaheda location, Abednego Nauta Haikola (31) was allegedly hacked to death with an axe by an unknown suspect.

Drugs

In Ariamsvlei, a case of dealing in drugs was opened against a 51-year-old man after he was found in possession of six plastic bags full of mandrax tablets.

In total, the bust included 6 186 full tablets and 49 half tablets, valued at N$745 260. Police investigations continue.

In Katima Mulilo, a 62-year-old man was arrested following an intelligence-led operation after he tried to sell two elephant tusks.
