Service delivery a priority – Shalyefu
Re-elected Ongwediva mayor Taarah Shalyefu says he is willing to be fired for fighting for improved service delivery for residents.
Shalyefu was re-elected on Monday for the fourth time to lead for another 12 months.
Swapo councillor Ulalia Katonyala retained her position as deputy mayor; Fabiam George has been appointed as chairperson of the management committee; and Naemi Amuthenu (Swapo) and Jona Helao (IPC) remain members of the management committee. Ottilie Haitota (IPC) and Mathews Tiyaho (IPC) are ordinary members.
Teamwork is key
Shalyefu said the opportunity accorded to him by his fellow councillors serves as an opportunity to ensure continuity of developmental projects.
“The aim is to take the residents of this town from point A to point B, of which point B is a better place,” Shalyefu said.
He said while he is aware of the daunting task, he believes teamwork makes it possible.
“As councillors, we should always be mindful that our electorates are persistently expecting quality service delivery and support from us. They consistently expect us to listen to them when they approach us. We cannot have people who demand and we do not respond. I am willing to get fired for that, comrades. Therefore, we should deliver to the best of our abilities without delay,” he said.
