RUNNING FOR CHANGE: Local ultramarathon runner André Ross recently completed a 160 km run along the Namibian coast to raise awareness and funds for the fight against gender-based violence (GBV). The race coincided with Women’s Day.
“Gender-based violence isn’t something I was vocal about initially, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised how much it bothers me. Violence against another gender is something I cannot stand, and this run became a way to contribute to a cause I believe in,” Ross explained. Ross compared the emotional rollercoaster of his run to the experiences of individuals enduring hardship. “The sunrise after a long, dark night lifted my spirit, reminding me of the hope that exists even in the darkest times,” he said. The event attracted broad community involvement, with companies and individuals contributing to the fundraiser. “When people rally behind a cause like this, it’s humbling. Every effort counts,” Ross said. "The more people involved, the greater the impact we can make."
