Rundu tariffs remain unchanged
Rundu mayor Gabriel Kanyanga last Friday announced that the cash-strapped local authority will not increase its tariffs for the 2022/2023 financial year.
He said the decision was made due to the economic downturn the country is facing, as well as the impact of Covid-19 on the livelihoods of people.
“Rundu town council has not adjusted tariffs for the 2022/2023 financial year," he said, adding that the local authority has, however, introduced new tariffs for ploughing services and illegal sewage disposal, amongst other things.
Budget
The Rundu town council’s 2022/2023 budget stands at N$152 653 908, which is a 6% increase from the previous year.
The local authority will receive an estimate of N$130 261 908 from operational income while N$22 392 000 will derive from other income streams.
Its estimated expenditure totals to N$152 653 908, of which N$123 920 890 is operational expenses while N$29 128 000 is for its development budget.
Kanyanga said during the current financial year, the council plans to survey four extensions to promote land tenure and property ownership for its residents.
He added that the council has made provision in its budget to extend the riverside town’s water networks.
