The Rössing Foundation last Wednesday announced a N$350 000 donation to the Ruach Elohim Foundation in Swakopmund.

The donation aims to support efforts to care for abandoned, neglected and abused babies in Namibia.

Ruach Elohim is a registered child protection organisation that focuses on awareness and prevention of baby dumping.

"Of the total donation, N$240 000 is allocated to enhancing social work expertise within the foundation. This investment will empower the team to provide comprehensive support and assistance to individuals and families in need across Namibia,” Rössing said in a statement.

Meanwhile, N$50 000 will be dedicated to awareness creation and capacity-building initiatives, enabling Ruach Elohim to expand its reach and effectiveness, it added.

The remaining N$60 000 will be allocated towards the provision of essential formula milk and ensuring the well-being of the children.

"This significant contribution underscores the Rössing Foundation's commitment to fostering sustainable development and addressing critical societal needs," the statement added.

Heartbreaking reality

"In a world where the act of baby dumping persists as a heartbreaking reality, the foundation's dedication to providing a safe haven for these innocent lives speaks volumes.

“Every baby deserves love, care and a chance to thrive, and it is through initiatives like the ‘baby saver box’ that we, as Rössing Foundation, can make a tangible difference in their lives," liaison and community development manager Maria Immanuel said.

“Our duty is to care for the children and we are now in a better position to provide that care, thanks to the Rössing Foundation," Ruach Elohim founder Ronel Peters said.
