Oshikuku road upgrade applauded
Government committed to improving lives
Oshikuku mayor Julia Endjambi said the road upgrade demonstrates the town's commitment to development and ensuring service delivery.
On Friday, deputy minister of works Veikko Nekundi officiated the opening of an upgraded version of one of the oldest roads in Oshikuku.
The road was transformed from gravel to bitumen standard and marked a Christmas gift for residents, Nekundi said.
The 700-metre road was refurbished at a cost of N$3.7 million.
Nekundi emphasised that the upgrade is an indication of the government's committed efforts to improve the lives of the Namibian people.
No worries
The deputy minister said the previously poor condition of the road had made it difficult for people to access their homes and visit their families, and now they will be able to do so without the worry of damaging their cars.
“I applaud the efforts and collaboration between the government, the Roads Administration Fund and the Oshikuku council for making sure that the town maintains a conducive environment for investors and residents through the provision of good road infrastructure,” Nekundi said.
Oshikuku mayor Julia Endjambi said the road upgrade demonstrates council’s commitment to developing the town, ensuring that services are easily accessible to the community.
“As entrusted to us, we take pride in our efforts to deliver services to the community, although there are some challenges of limited financial resources [which] hamper our efforts to deliver services within a short time frame,” Endjambi said.
