Oshikuku raises over N$500 000 for trade fair
The Oshikuku Town Council raised over N$500 000 at a recent gala dinner in support of the town’s annual trade fair taking place next month.
The gala dinner took place last weekend under the theme ‘Oshikuku creating opportunities for socio-economic growth for investors’.
The trade fair will take place from 26 October to 2 November at the Young Star Sports Field.
During the dinner, First National Bank (FNB), as the main sponsor, pledged N$40 000. Kambwa Trading pledged N$20 000 in addition to covering the labour costs to fence off the sports field, and the Rani Group of Companies pledged to give N$15 000.
Enhancing development
Keynote speaker and minister of industrialisation and trade, Lucia Iipumbu, said trade fairs and exhibitions remain key platforms for promoting and enhancing socio-economic development.
Iipumbu said in today’s digital age, trade fairs and exhibitions may appear traditional, but for entrepreneurs, they offer treasure troves of possibilities.
“Therefore, understanding the benefits of trade fairs and exhibitions to an entrepreneur is crucial. The benefits of trade fairs and expos are multifaceted, especially for entrepreneurs, among others. They provide opportunities for networking, showcasing products, gaining market insights and forging strategic partnerships, all of which can lead to business growth and success,” she said.
Meaningful impact
Iipumbu said events such as trade fairs can attract investment and create conducive environments that boost employment opportunities, especially for young people.
Oshikuku mayor Julia Endjambi said the council aims to promote and increase the town's visibility to attract investors.
“We believe those investments would have a meaningful impact on the socio-economic situation of this town and ultimately the lives of the people."
Endjambi pointed out that Oshikuku is surrounded by five constituencies, namely Elim, Etayi, Ogongo, Okalongo and Oshikuku, and the town aims to become a residential hub for these areas.
“The town of Oshikuku is home to young professionals, of which the majority are employed by the government as police officers, educators and health professionals. In light of that fact, the council believes it can accommodate more by availing more land for residential purposes for them.” she said.
