Oshikuku aims to transform difficulties into opportunities

TUNOHOLE MUNGOBA
Oshikuku mayor Julia Endjambi recently tabled the town’s 2022-2023 budget under the theme ‘transforming difficulty into opportunity’.

A total of about N$34.6 million has been budgeted, with N$6.3 million earmarked for capital projects.

“For too long, our residents have raised their concerns on the state of our town. These concerns include - but are not limited to - animals [roaming] in town, poor conditions of our roads, unresolved land encroachments, limited modern shopping facilities and storm-water challenges during the rainy season.

“This budget is therefore dedicated to responding to the concerns of our residents,” she said.

“It is on that basis that council allocated a total of N$13.4 million to development projects and the compensation of crop field owners.”

Amongst other things, the council has highlighted an animal pounding kraal, road maintenance, the construction of a storm-water channel, the construction of phase two of the open market and upgrading Extension 2 roads to bitumen as the capital projects for the upcoming financial year.

Take ownership

Endjambi urged residents to take ownership of the projects.

“We are all expected to take ownership of this budget so that it is executed with the sole purpose to transform our town in the interest of our residents and investors.

“With the limited resources at our disposal, we have managed to implement some of the projects fully, others partially and some are still ongoing,” she said.

She further told residents to view the tabling of the budget as a demonstration of council’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

“We want to allow our residents and stakeholders to understand and appreciate what council is doing for the development of our town and allow them to contribute towards this development goal,” she said.
