The Oshikoto Regional Council and Innlandet Country Council signed a five-year memorandum of understanding to strengthen their working relations as well as foster the existing collaborative relationship between the two councils.

The two councils signed the agreement on Tuesday at Okashana Rural Development Centre in Omuthiya.

In 2015, the two councils signed their first MoU with the aim of investing in diverse sectors of the societies.

These included nurturing and developing working relations in the area of capacity building, sharing and learning of the best practices, regional and local authority development planning, promotion of cultures, learning support and public health.

The education aspect dominated the previous MoU, and resulted to Inlandet Country Council donating N$100 000 in 2018 to the directorate of education to purchase textbooks.

The MoU also promoted the exchange of teaching and learning between schools and colleges in the two councils, with more than 60 teachers from Oshikoto Region having been trained and capacitated in various fields of studies at universities in Norway.

The chairperson of the Oshikoto Regional Council, Samuel Shivute, said he strongly believes that the agreement signed by the two councils will supplement and form part of their collaborative efforts to produce desired results for equal benefit to the institutions and countries at large.

Shivute also expressed gratitude to the leadership of Inndandet Country Council for a wise and considerate decision regarding the renewal of their partnership, amidst devastating outbreak of Covid-19 which resulted in economic downturn.

Meanwhile, the head of the delegation from Innlandet Country Council, Mona Stormoen, urged all stakeholders involved to place strategic communication at the centre of all collaboration during the implementation of the agreement.

The Inndandet delegation is in the region for a three-day working visit. They are expected to visit Onankali Mahangu Paper project, Nakambale Museum and Ondonga Palace.
