Oshana fertile with investment opportunities – Nandi-Ndaitwah

Tuyeimo Haidula
Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the Oshana Region's fertile soil and favourable climatic conditions make it an ideal location for agriculture.

Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasised that with sufficient support, the region can lead in creating jobs and increasing food and nutritional production and consumption.

In a speech read on her behalf at the Oshana Investment Conference by trade and industrialisation minister Lucia Iipumbu on Wednesday, Nandi-Ndaitwah said the conference is a part of a continued journey to mobilise investments for the region, to showcase the potential of Oshana, and to convey to the entire country and beyond that Oshana Region is bankable.

Rich opportunities

The conference is taking place in Ongwediva under the theme ‘Igniting Economic Growth’.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said Oshana Region is an ideal prime investment destination, offering a favourable business environment and a range of untapped opportunities.

"With its strategic location, fertile lands, and abundant resources, this region serves as one of the gateways to a thriving economy in Namibia. What is required is for us to prioritise our investments in infrastructure development within the region. Infrastructures such as improving road networks, electricity, and water supply systems. These improvements will not only attract investments but also provide a conducive environment for businesses to thrive."

She said fishing, mining, agriculture and tourism are valuable economic enablers that ensure the shared prosperity of the economy.

She said she believes that conference participants will delve into the opportunities these sectors and other key sectors have to offer the region.

Tourism benefits

Nandi-Ndaitwah also noted that tourism is another sector with great potential in the Oshana Region, thanks to its proximity to Etosha National Park, a major attraction for thousands of international tourists.

"By investing in infrastructure and marketing efforts, we can expand the park's territory and increase visitor numbers, resulting in a boost to the local economy and once again creating jobs," Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

She added that the conference also serves as a platform for entrepreneurs, businesses and community leaders to collaborate and maximise the region's potential.
