Ombalantu air grievances at Swapo rally
Ombalantu Traditional Authority leader Elenga Oswin Mukulu has bemoaned the scarcity of water to Swapo Party vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
In a speech read on his behalf by Korbinian Vizkaya, he aired the community’s grievances, like the fact that several earth dams have dried up, while five old borrow pits are broken.
Speaking during a Swapo rally held at Outapi in the Omusati Region recently, Mukulu said five earth dams – in the Oshipaa, Ouhwaala, Ohamayashuunda A, Oshiputushakayone and Oluvango villages – need to be rehabilitated.
There is further need for six new earth dams to be excavated in the Okamwandikonghwii, Oukwandongo, Omateleko, Omaputa, Oluvango and Oshiputushakayone villages, he said.
The old borrow pits which need to be repaired are located at Omateleko, Okamwandikonghwii, Ohamayashuunda A and Oukwandongo.
Work together
“In meeting government halfway on water scarcity, the Ombalantu Traditional Authority and the communities of Omufituweelo, Okahwakamayaa and Okafitukatanyange have raised the funds with the support of the local business communities and are currently busy converting the traditional pits into an earth dam,” Mukulu said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged the challenges presented to her and said government will continue to work together with the traditional leaders in order to develop communities and preserve peace and stability within the respective areas of jurisdiction.
