Omaludi festival a boon for agriculture - Nandi-Ndaitwah
Vice-President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the Omaludi Agricultural Festival stimulates agricultural production and facilitates the marketing of farming products, boosting job opportunities for thousands of Namibians.
Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is also the patron of the festival, was speaking at the opening ceremony of the fourth edition of the festival on Wednesday in Okongo, Ohangwena Region.
She said the festival promotes tourism by attracting visitors from near and far and provides an opportunity for farmers to showcase their agricultural produce, including horticultural products and livestock.
The theme for this year is 'Dream agriculture, and think tourism for ambitious economic growth'.
The theme befits the objective of the event, which is not only unique but also inspires communities to change their mindset to view agriculture as a business and not only as a subsistence rural economy, the vice-president said.
Ohangwena governor Sebastian Ndeitunga said the event not only allows farmers to exhibit their livestock but “also encompasses the promotion and marketing of various other goods and services, thereby significantly contributing to the economic development of this village, constituency and the broader region.”
Inaugurated in 2018, the Omaludi Agricultural Festival has become a beacon of success for farmers, particularly in the northern regions of the country, where local farmers and businesses can display their products, exchange information and market their animal and agricultural produce.
