In what was termed a ‘loving memory tribute’ to president Hage Geingob, northern leaders have joined the nation in mourning his death.

Oshana regional governor Elia Irimari described Geingob as a visionary and companionable leader who served the Namibian people diligently.

Irimari, speaking on behalf of the leaders, said they share in the immense sadness and grief that Geingob's loss has brought upon the entire nation.

“President Geingob was not only a visionary leader but also a compassionate and dedicated statesman who tirelessly worked towards the betterment of Namibia and its people,” he said.

Irimari added that Geingob made a profound impact on the country, which will forever be remembered, from his efforts in promoting social and economic development to his commitment to fostering unity and inclusivity.

A nation grieves

Omusati regional governor Erginus Endjala expressed his condolences to the former First Lady Monica Geingos and the president's children.

“The news came as a shock, but as human beings, [we] have to accept and understand that the same God who gave them the president was the one who took him away. We can only console ourselves and continue performing our normal duties for the better of our country,” he said.

Endjala pleaded with the public to refrain from provocative comments that may trigger disunity among Namibians.

He added that Geingob gave them a responsibility to be transparent and inform the public about their health, saying this serves as a good example that they shall all emulate as leaders.

Sad chapter

Oshikoto governor Penda Ya Ndakolo said Geingob’s death is a heavy loss to the nation and a sad chapter in Namibian history.

Ya Ndakolo said the late president was a born and valiant leader who was a true pioneer in the cause of the independence of the country.

“He was a tireless fighter who dedicated his life and work to the people,” he said.

All three leaders said the late Geingob’s legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

Furthermore, Irimari said that during this difficult time, they offer their support and condolences to Geingos, the entire Geingob family, as well as to all Namibians.
