Nghaamwa gifts 11 cattle to Nujoma's family

Tuyeimo Haidula
Former Ohangwena governor and philanthropist Usko Nghaamwa has extended a helping hand to the family of the late founding president Sam Nujoma by donating 11 cattle.

Nghaamwa said two cattle were delivered to Etunda shortly after Nujoma's passing, while nine cattle arrived on Wednesday morning.

He explained that previously he would gift cattle to Nujoma in honour of his birthday – now he did it to assist the family in their time of need, in accordance with Aawambo culture.

“The cattle are to assist with Nujoma's memorial preparation at Etunda,” Nghaamwa explained.

He added that Nujoma was a people’s person and a leader.

Nghaamwa said the entire nation should celebrate Nujoma’s life and honour him for the sacrifices he has made.

“He was the father of the Namibian nation, the first president who liberated Namibia from the hand of the oppressors and we will forever be grateful for that,” he said.

Nghaamwa also plans to provide an additional three cattle to assist with preparations for the memorial that will be held in honour of Nujoma in the Ohangwena Region on Friday.

Nujoma's body will lie in state at all regional memorial services, starting Thursday at Etunda near Okahao in the Omusati Region. On Friday, it will proceed to Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region.
