New Oshana police commissioner welcomed
The newly appointed Oshana police regional commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, is determined to strengthen relations between the police and the community to reduce crime in the region.
In the presence of police inspector general Sebastian Ndeitunga, Sakaria received his instruments of authority from former regional commander Rauha Amwele on Monday.
Sakari underlined that the fight against crime is a challenge which cannot be solved by the police alone.
"Our approach will be community-orientated policing, which is in line with NamPol’s strategic plan. This falls under pillar two, which speaks on building partnerships," he said.
Great memories
Amwele, who has served the force for 32 years, said it has been a great journey and profound memories were made, which she will cherish forever.
"For the past several days, memories have flooded my mind and my heart. I have great memories of the times shared, successes achieved, and challenges faced in my professional and personal life. They all form a part of the extraordinary memories of my policing career," she said.
In 2009, Amwele was appointed to the rank of deputy commissioner for Oshana, after she was transferred to the Oshakati police headquarters. She was again promoted in 2015 to the rank of regional commander. She served in that position until her retirement.
Amwele said her retirement is not a sign of being tired, but that age has caught up with her. She will continue working for the public good, she said.
Ndeitunga joked that Sakaria should not pay attention to the flood of interest from women on social media since the announcement of this new position, but urged him to focus on the task at hand.
In the same vein, the police chief applauded Amwele for her dedication to the force and for fighting crime in the region.
