NamRA pleased with public engagement at OATF
Tax agency ready to assist
A large number of Namibians have visited the NamRA stall at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF), an indication that citizens are eager to comply with Namibia's tax regulations, officials say.
Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) spokesperson Tonateni Shidhudhu said the influx of visitors at their stall at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) is an indication that citizens are willing to comply with tax regulation.
Shidhudhu said they are assisting taxpayers with integrated tax administration system (ITAS) registration and electronic filing at the trade fair centre. He was quick to add that their offices in Oshakati are also open, and clients can pop in for assistance as well.
"When you see people coming, it is an indication that they want to comply and be in good standing. This will automatically mean increased revenue for the country," he said.
Shidhudhu said he cannot stress enough the importance of paying tax and encourages all Namibians to continue abiding by tax laws.
Happy
He said those who need assistance with ITAS and how to use the self-service facility, online filing of returns, single view of tax payers’ accounts, and accelerated processing of tax forms with real-time notification can also make a stop at the stall.
"Even those who are approaching pension are visiting our offices to have their documentation in order. We are happy and pleased to see this," Shidhudhu said.
He said this year they've experienced limited space, which has been frustrating for some clients waiting in long lines. He said they plan to have a larger and improved stall next year.
Comply with the law
Shidhudhu pleaded with the public to comply with revenue, customs, and excise laws, to declare the correct value of goods when importing and exporting, and to file returns and pay taxes and duties on time.
"Let us continue exchanging information as stakeholders. We are here to assist you and to educate and dissuade consumers from buying counterfeit goods," he stressed.
