MTC awards student bursaries
Telecommunications giant MTC handed over bursaries valued at N$750 000 to five students in various fields of computer science last week.
MTC's learning and development specialist, Eugene Fisch, said each bursary is unique to the beneficiary.
"Every learner is in a different field, so there's no specific amount we hand over to each student. The bursaries are not given because of the potential of the students but because they have proven to be the best in their field," Fisch told Namibian Sun.
Holistic assistance
He added that the bursaries are not solely for tuition fees but will cover every need, including additional resources, technology, and books.
"The students will be evaluated annually and that will determine whether or not the bursary will continue through the following year.
We don't give bursaries to first-year students because we believe that the student should have proven themselves for us to recognise that," he added.
Education valued
MTC boasts a 90% retention rate by employing bursary recipients in various departments.
MTC's brand ambassador, Janet Kapenda, said education is crucial and the programme embodies giving a helping hand to dreaming students.
"This bursary scheme exists to assist students who are pursuing their dreams without the burden and uncertainty of carrying financial costs. It is impossible to overstate the importance of education, and achieving your goals through education is what motivates our unwavering support," Kapenda said.
"It is crucial for companies like MTC to continue supporting students and the education sector as a whole," she said.
