Mother berates police for son’s sex-death revelation
Helaria Johannes - the mother of a man who died at Onethindi on Saturday, allegedly right after he had sex - has condemned the manner in which police revealed the intimate details surrounding his death.
A police report on Monday indicated that Elia Johannes (43) died moments after having sex with his girlfriend. The media, including Namibian Sun, consequently reported on the incident.
The deceased’s mother said the report has caused harm to the family.
“The police never consulted us before making this matter public, or told us how they found my son. I just saw on social media that he died after having had sex,” she said.
She added that she is not happy with how the police handled the situation.
It is alleged that the deceased – a bus driver for a local private school - collapsed immediately after sex on Saturday afternoon. He had complained of not feeling well.
“According to the girlfriend, the deceased got off the bed complaining of chest pain, started shivering, breathing weirdly and eventually fainted and never [got up] again,” the police report read.
White foam was observed around the deceased’s mouth at the time, it added.
When approached for comment, Namibian Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, confirmed the incident as per the police report, but declined to give further details.
‘Just fine’
In an interview with Namibian Sun yesterday, Helaria said she had spoken to her son on that fateful day and he was “just fine”.
“We spoke around 13:20 that day and he was supposed to take me for choir practice at 14:00. When I tried calling again, he didn’t pick up his phone,” she said.
She added that she later got a call that her son fell and died.
“My son was not sick at all. I have never known him to have any sort of disease,” she said.
Love shack
Namibian Sun established that Elia got married in 2021 and had three children.
According to one of the deceased’s friends, Elia asked him for his room keys so that he could use the room with a woman.
“It was the first time he had gone to my shack with a lady,” the shaken friend said.
He added that he has not slept in his shack since the incident and that he will have to break it down.
“I cannot sleep in that shack any more; this is something serious.”
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Elia’s girlfriend worked for him and his wife as a domestic worker, but was purportedly fired after the wife realised the two were in a relationship.
