Men's conference kicks off in Keetmanshop

News in short
Elizabeth //Kheibes
//Karas regional council chairperson Joseph Isaacks yesterday announced that the gender ministry’s annual men's conference will kick off today at Schützenhaus Guesthouse in Keetmanshoop.

This year's event will focus on positive masculinity and ending suicide among men. The conference is hosted in partnership with the information and communication technology ministry and other stakeholders.

"The conference is exclusively for men to delve into the issues that contribute to gender-based violence [GBV] and suicide in men especially," Isaacks said.

Last year, the conference was held in Ongwediva under the theme ‘Galvanising positive masculinity to end the scourge of violence in Namibia'.

The ministry collaborated with the nationhood and national pride programme, and the purpose of the summit was to encourage men to take a stand against GBV and to promote gender equality, among other things.
