WINDHOEKAn 83-year-old Mariental woman died during a robbery of her house over the weekend, after she and her housekeeper were tied up by four unidentified suspects.
The pensioner was identified as Johanna Hendrihetta Simon. The incident happened between Friday night and Saturday morning, according to a police report in the matter.
“It is alleged that four unknown suspects forced open the back door with a crowbar to gain entry and tied two female victims, Johanna Hendrihetta Simon and her female housekeeper, with pantyhose, tape and clothing pieces,” reads the report.
“The suspects then searched through the house. After they left, the housekeeper managed to loosen herself and went to the elderly victim to rescue her, but found her already dead. It is unknown at this stage what the cause of death is, but there is a possibility that she might have been suffocated.”
Although the extent of the theft is not fully established yet, two cellphones and two wedding rings are confirmed to have been stolen during the robbery. The suspects are unknown and remain at large.
Stabbed by brother
In a separate incident on Friday, a man stabbed his brother to death at Eendobe cucashops in Eendobe village.
He stabbed his brother with a knife in the chest during the fight, said the police, who have arrested him.
In another stabbing incident in the Tseiblaagte location of Keetmanshoop, a 50-year-old man died on the spot after he was stabbed in the neck by another man, aged 39. It is alleged that an argument erupted between the two after the deceased tried to stop a fight between the suspect and his girlfriend.
“The suspect sustained a head fracture and as a result was rushed to Windhoek for medical treatment.”
Domino effect
At Stampriet, Albertus Leon de Kock, aged 36, died on the spot after he was stabbed in the chest with a knife. The deceased and the 35-year-old male suspect had a quarrel over a game of dominos they were playing. “The suspect collected a knife from his house and stabbed the victim,” police said.
At Tsumkwe settlement, another man, aged between 40 and 45 years, sustained severe injuries and subsequently died after he was kicked by a 59-year-old man.
“It is further alleged that the suspect did not find his girlfriend home, however, he found her with the deceased at a shebeen and started blaming the deceased for taking his girlfriend away from home before he started kicking the deceased,” police report.
