Maja, Martha – Namibia’s medal heroines

Maja Brinkmann won a bronze medal on Sunday in the Super Sprint individual triathlon race for her country at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

Aspen Anderson from Australia (32:53) won gold in the women's race, with Jessica Heeps of Scotland second (33:17) and Brinkmann third in 34:02.

Although Nathan Chase and Fourie Steyn did not win medals in their races, the two Namibians finished ninth and tenth, respectively, at the Buccoo Beach Facility in the Caribbean.

In the Super Sprint team relay, Chase and Brinkmann ended seventh with 44 minutes, 6 seconds.

Athletics

Namibia's second and last medal was won by the T42 athlete, Martha Winnie Nengola, in the discus throw. Her 11.05 metres were good enough to earn bronze at the Hasely Crawford Athletics Stadium on Monday.

Magano Naseb finished fourth in the 100 metre heats on Monday in 10.86. In the semi-final, Naseb came sixth in 11.05 and did not qualify for the final.

1 500 m races

Nyanyukweni Frans (third) qualified in her semi-final with 4 minutes, 42.37 seconds for the final. On Tuesday night, she could only manage an eighth-place finish in her 1 500m final with 4:41.90.

Josua Katroli finished sixth on Wednesday evening with a height of 1.95 metres in the high jump.

Cycling road race

Theuns van der Westhuizen achieved tenth place, while Adrian Key was awarded 16th place. They crossed the finish line together with 15 other riders in a bunch at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium.
