Kavango West on track for sustainable growth - Ausiku
Kavango West governor Sirkka Ausiku says despite its myriad challenges, the region has made significant developments, emphasising the council's commitment to infrastructure and community growth.
Ausiku made these remarks last Friday during her state of the region address in Nkurenkuru.
According to the governor, the Kavango West Regional Council has a staff positions of 115, with 105 positions filled currently.
“The council has made substantial strides in infrastructure development, completing four new constituency offices and advancing the construction of the Regional Government Office Park, which has a budget of N$30 million and is expected to be completed by 2025,” she said.
“Additionally, the Rupara Rural Development Centre is under construction with an allocation of N$13 million, alongside ongoing service developments at Katwitwi settlement with a budget of N$1 million. The Regional Council has also implemented various rural development programmes, benefiting 80 community members, including youth, through goat farming initiatives, while 23 individuals have benefited from poultry farming projects aimed at fostering self-employment,” she said.

Ausiku added that through the Namibia Integrated Landscape Approach for Enhancing Livelihoods and Environmental Governance to Eradicate Poverty (NILALEG) Nkulivere Landscape project in the Mpungu constituency, two traditional wells have been completed at Nepara and Ngandu villages, along with a workshop for woodcarvers.
“Progress is also being made in housing development, with the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia constructing 22 additional houses in Rupara village, bringing the total to 97. In the Mankumpi constituency, the construction of 20 houses will commence this financial year at Katjinakatji," the governor said.
Ausiku further urged all constituency councillors to initiate quality yet affordable housing projects in all new settlements, reinforcing the council's dedication to the region's sustainable development.
