Kavango East equips the youth for the future
Kavango East governor Bonifatius Wakudumo says the region has implemented youth entrepreneurship programmes, skills training initiatives, and mentorship opportunities to equip young people with the tools and resources to succeed in the workforce and contribute to the region's development.
Wakudumo made these remarks during his recent state of the region address.
“Our youth are the future of our region, and we have prioritised their employment and empowerment. A total of 15 students were attached to the Northern Electricity Distributor (NORED) as part of their internship programme for six months. Moreover, 7 students were also trained on aquaculture activities in the region during the 2023/24 financial year,” he said.

During the Unmatched Youth Conference, the governor added that the region is also committed to advancing youth entrepreneurship through capacity building, in which 120 aspiring young people were trained in entrepreneurship development and support.
“Additional training on women in leadership was conducted for 46 participants in the Rundu urban constituency," the governor explained.
He said the region also "continues to make strides in capacitating young people with skills-based training in bricklaying and plastering, welding and metal fabrication, plumbing and pipefitting, joinery and cabinet making, agriculture, hospitality and tourism, clothing production, and computer and office administration, at Frans Dimbare.”
“Additionally, young people were trained on financial literacy as part of their prequalification for the National Youth Credit Scheme, which has benefitted 24 young people to the combined amount of N$192 000 to finance their businesses,” Wakudumo said.
“Moreover, Rundu Urban Youth Project CC was funded with a total amount of N$276 500 under the Rural Youth Enterprise programme initiated under the Harambee Prosperity Plan,” the governor noted.
In terms of natural resources management, 30 community members from different community forests and conservancies within the Kavango East Region were trained in forest and veld fire management.
Moreover, training involving 12 management members from Muduva Nyangana, George Mukoya and Kapinga kaMwalye conservancies and community forest on wood resource inventory was conducted.
