India’s newest missile frigate, INS Tushil, made a historic visit to the port of Walvis Bay from 21 to 23 January, marking the fifth Indian naval ship to visit Namibia in recent years.

The INS Tarkash also visited this port in 2017, 2019 and 2022, and the INS Sumedha anchored in Walvis Bay last year. “Upon arrival, the INS Tushil received a warm welcome from Namport and representatives of the High Commission of India,” reads a statement. The ship’s captain and commanding officer, Peter Varghese, also cordially invited the Namibian Commander of Naval Operations, Erastus Lazarus, to discuss bilateral naval cooperation, expand professional ties and strengthen maritime security in the region. The Namibian naval team was welcomed aboard the frigate to view the INS Tushil’s advanced technology. “ - STAFF REPORTER
