The recruitment process for a new boss of the Electricity Control Board (ECB) is nearing completion – despite claims of candidates being sidelined.

The electricity utility company has been without a substantive head since the death of its former CEO Foibe Namene at the start of August 2021.

A recruitment agency, Vision Consultancy, was hired to spearhead the process.

ECB board chairperson Gotlieb Hinda last week could not provide a timeline as to when the recruitment would be completed.

“We cannot give you a timeline other than to say we hope to complete it as soon as possible. The momentum of the good work done by our previous CEO has carried the ECB well and the current exco managers acting in that capacity are holding the fort well,” he said when approached.

In process

Vision Consultancy managing director Rudi Koekemoer said submissions had been made to the board regarding the shortlisted candidates.

It is understood some of those who applied for the job include former Windhoek CEO Robert Kahimise. He is currently employed as the CEO of regional electricity distributor, Cenored.

ECB’s incumbent general manager for economic regulation Pinehas Mutota is also amongst those who applied. Mutota was also the acting CEO following Namene’s death.

Another applicant is Kandali Iyambo, the senior manager of the energy trading department at NamPower. Iyambo succeeded Namene in that position when the latter moved to ECB in 2014.

Another applicant is seasoned engineer Elron Awase, who also had a stint as an executive at Erongo Red. He is currently the managing director of Tesla Energy Solutions.
