Namibian midfielder Marcel Papama says he wants to give it his all during the second season at his club, Jwaneng Galaxy FC, in the Botswana Premier League. Fresh from a Cosafa final, Papama still has one more season on his contract after joining the club in January this year.

“I am looking forward to my second season in Botswana and I am ready to make sure I help my club.

“It was a very short time for me at the club last season, and I was just settling in well when the season came to an end.

“I am therefore pushing for better minutes and a bigger impression next season,” Papama said.

Having joined his club halfway through the season, Papama only played a handful of games before the season concluded.

The 26-year-old also made three Caf Champions League appearances for his side.

“Playing Champions League football for me was the highlight of the season and I was pleased to have had that opportunity.

“It is always a dream come true for a footballer to be able to play in major competitions on the African continent and I would like to thank Jwaneng Galaxy for that,” he said.

Papama’s side finished third during the 2021/22 season after acquiring 61 points in 30 matches.

The league was won by Gaborone United with 72 points, followed by Township Rollers with 66 points.

“It was definitely not a nice feeling that we did not win the league, but life goes on.

“That is why next season will be one in which to work so hard that I can assist the club in winning the title,” he added.

Interest

Papama recently formed part of the Namibian national team that reached the Cosafa Cup final.

He was one of the influential players during the competition, scooping a man of the match accolade along the way.

Papama was withdrawn in the second half of the final, which saw Namibia lose 1-0 to Zambia. “It is a bit premature to speak of any other developments or interests after the Cosafa.

“We do have agents and they are the people who can tell us more about those things if they arise, even if I had impressed those who watched the competition.

“My focus right now is on my current club until anything else changes.”

The player is currently on holiday and is set to return to Botswana next month.

He is spending time catching up with friends and being with his family.

“It is now time for family and relaxation because we had a short holiday given that I had to join the Brave Warriors camp after the season had concluded in Botswana.”
