GIPF opens doors in Outapi

Tuyeimo Haidula
The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) opened a new office in Outapi in the Omusati Region on Monday.

Outapi is one of the fastest-growing towns in northern Namibia and GIPF CEO Martin Inkumbi said they decided to establish the office there as an administrative centre.

“We continue to endeavour to provide decentralised services to our members. The opening of this office shall complement our efforts, leading to the growth and development of Outapi and the region,” he said.

The total investment in the construction of the office amounted to N$6 million.

Vice chairperson of the GIPF board of trustees, Evans Maswahu, said GIPF has established 11 regional and four satellite offices across all 14 regions.

Maswahu said the addition of a new and permanent office in Outapi is a result of their strategic intent and mandate, which is to provide retirement and ancillary benefits to their members and beneficiaries.

“This can only be achieved through regional presence and visibility," he said.

Decentralisation goals

Meanwhile, Omusati governor Erginus Endjala praised GIPF for “moving closer to the people.”

Endjala said it has been the government's desire to drive rural development through the decentralisation policy to enable expansion in all regions of the country.

"As Namibians, we must collectively encourage decentralisation so that all Namibians, irrespective of their geographic location, may have access to goods and services to enjoy the fruits of our independence and actively participate in our economy," he said.
