News in short

The European Union (EU), the gender ministry and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) recently hosted an orientation workshop for civil society organisations in Otjiwarongo.

The project - aimed to combat gender-based violence (GBV) - began in late November 2023, following a funding agreement between the EU and the UNFPA. The initiative has been funded to the tune of N$27.7 million and N$2.7 million from the EU and UNFPA respectively.

In her welcoming remarks, UNFPA Namibia assistant representative Loide Amkongo applauded civil society organisations for aligning with the national agenda and becoming a key part of GBV prevention and response. "I want to reaffirm UNFPA and EU's commitment to working with a multitude of partners and other UN agencies - in particular the youth, who form 71% of the Namibia population - in advocating for evidence-based policies and programmes for adolescents and youth, men and women to promote and advance the prevention of and response to GBV," she said.
