FUN IN THE SUN
FUN IN THE SUN: The first-ever Bank Windhoek Sandcastle Competition brought together families and friends at the coast for a day of creativity and fun on Saturday, 21 December. The competition featured 20 teams, with participants ranging from as young as two years old to 75.
Held at the Platz Am Meer beach area in Swakopmund, the event provided each team with a three-by-three-meter gazebo and three hours to construct their sandcastle masterpiece. Participants received building equipment sponsored by Build It, while Food Lovers Market supplied food and drinks. Music and entertainment were provided by Nova.
Dave Hammond, an event organiser from Connect People to People, said: “We had a fantastic turnout and the weather was perfect."
He said the competition was not only about building beautiful sandcastles, but "also about bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together to enjoy a day of creativity. Plus, we’re raising funds for the Cancer Association, which makes it even more meaningful.”
The competition offered an N$6 000 cash prize pool to the winners, with the top three teams receiving the bulk of the prize money. In addition, smaller prizes and medals were awarded for creativity, good spirit and overall effort. The event also featured a chess booth run by the Chess Association, which provided chess lessons and added another layer of entertainment for attendees.
