Emulating ASEAN could bring economic stability - Rameez
News in short
Acting High Commissioner of Malaysia, Dato Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, has urged Namibia to consider emulating the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) model, citing possible benefits of economic stability, political coherence and sociocultural development.
He made the remarks at a public lecture held by the high commission at the International University of Management (IUM) last week, alongside students and lecturers from the faculty of strategic studies and management. It aimed to educate Namibia about ASEAN’s history, development and importance in international politics.
With Malaysia set to chair ASEAN in 2025, it will set priorities to enhance regional cooperation and development. Rameez added that the association’s approach could help Namibia foster a more integrated and robust economic environment.
“Such cooperation and collaboration could lead to shared resources, increased trade and mutual support among member states, deriving overall development,” he said.
