Known for her versatility and authenticity, Diana Masters is no stranger to the NTV stage, having clinched the titles of Presenter of the Year and Best Talk Show in 2024.

However, this year, she will trade the nominee's spotlight for the host's microphone, a move she describes as both humbling and exhilarating.

In an interview with tjil, Masters said hosting the awards is a different kind of honour. “‘t’s an opportunity to celebrate the excellence of others and share this moment with my audience."

Masters transition from award-winning nominee to host is emblematic of her commitment to growth and embracing new challenges. She views this role as a testament to her versatility as a presenter and as a celebration of the industry’s collective talent.

A year of triumph

Master’s stellar achievements in 2024 were no accident. Winning both Presenter of the Year and Best Talk Show reflected the hard work and dedication she and her team poured into their craft. “The success came from an incredible team effort.

“From production to presentation, everyone worked tirelessly to ensure we delivered the best. And of course, the unwavering support of viewers was the foundation of it all,” she shared.

Masters attributes her accolades to authenticity and relatability, qualities she believes resonate deeply with her audience. “With me, what you see is what you get, the real moments, slip-ups and all. That connection with viewers inspires me to keep pushing boundaries and striving for excellence.”

Passion ignited in childhood

Masters' love for television presenting began in her childhood, sparked by the shows she watched with her family. Programmes like ‘Top Gear’ and post-match football interviews not only captivated her but also inspired her to pursue a career that would connect with audiences just as those presenters had connected with her.

“I’ve always wanted to be a relatable presenter that people enjoy watching,” she said. “That passion and drive to improve keep me going. My ultimate dream is to take my work to international stages, and I know that hard work and authenticity will pave the way.”

The role of recognition

For Masters, platforms like the NTV Awards play a pivotal role in recognising talent and encouraging growth within the media industry. “Award shows shine a spotlight on hard work and dedication. They not only celebrate individuals but also inspire the entire industry to aim higher,” she explained.

Having worn many hats in her career – from hosting ‘Election Watch’ to covering significant national events – Masters understands the impact of being acknowledged for one’s efforts. “Recognition boosts confidence and fosters healthy competition, ultimately elevating the industry as a whole. It’s not just about winning; it’s about celebrating the incredible diversity of talent we have.”

Looking ahead

As Masters prepares to take the stage as host of the 2025 NTV Awards, her focus remains on authenticity, excellence and connection. “This role is a celebration of the industry and a chance to highlight the incredible talent we have. I’m honoured to be part of this journey and look forward to making it a night to remember.”

The NTV Awards 2025 are set to take place Wednesday, 12 February, at the National Theatre of Namibia.
