Chinese embassy keen to support alumni
'Special bond between you and China'
Zhao Weiping, the Chinese ambassador to Namibia, pledged the embassy's full support to the Association for Namibia-China Alumni (ANCA).
During a briefing last Friday, outgoing chairperson Rodney Sikopo bade the ANCA farewell, but noted that he will be available in an advisory capacity to ensure the organisation - of which he was a founding member - reaches new heights.
ANCA was established in 2018 with about 50 enrolled members and now boasts 250 members who studied in China.
“My dear friends, the common experience of once studying in China brings you together as members of ANCA and forms a special bond between you and China. The ANCA is your organisation, but it is also our organisation in the sense that we want to give it our full support," Zhao said.
"We can support you by providing venues and relevant logistical facilities for your future activities. We can support by facilitating the networking between you and the local Chinese community, the visiting Chinese delegations as well as the relevant institutions in China."
He added that the members would certainly not find it a waste of time to participate in ANCA activities, and that it will contribute to the growth of Namibia and China's bilateral relations.
“There exists enormous potential in the future development of our bilateral relations, and it’s worthwhile for every one of us to contribute our efforts to push for the further promotion of the friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between our two countries. I hope and believe ANCA will achieve a lot in this regard,” Zhao said.
