Car theft surges in Oshana Region
Police in the Oshana Region have recorded the theft of 57 vehicles between 2022 and this year.
Oshana regional crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Fredrik Ndjadila, told Namibian Sun 31 cars were reported stolen in 2023, while 18 vehicles were reported stolen in 2022.
So far this year, eight vehicles have been reported stolen in the region.
Ndjadila said 16 vehicles have been recovered within Namibia, while five of the reported stolen cars were recovered in Angola, all of which were returned to Namibia.
He said all the vehicles recovered in Angola were stolen in Oshana Region and transported to that country.
“The police are yet to recover a total of 36 vehicles that were stolen during the period under review,” he said.
Ndjadila said the police are hard at work to recover the remaining vehicles and will leave no stone unturned.
He cautioned vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are always protected from theft.
“Vehicle owners must always make sure that they park their vehicles in safe places. They must make sure that their engines are off and their car keys are not inside. They must also avoid trusting their vehicles with strangers such as car washers, car guards and so on,” Ndjadila said.
