Baby mutilated and killed

A man discovered the mutilated body of a baby girl while rummaging for scrap materials in a trash container in Swakopmund on Friday.

The body of a baby girl was discovered on Friday in the Tulinawa informal settlement in Modesa, Swakopmund, according to the Namibian Police's crime report for the past weekend. A preliminary investigation suggests the baby was between four and five months old at the time of her death.

Her body was discovered just after 12:00 in a trash container by a man who was searching for scrap metal. The body was wrapped in a plastic bag and was already in an advanced stage of decomposition, with her head mutilated. The body was taken to the mortuary in Swakopmund. No suspects have been identified at this stage, police said.

Deadly weekend

On Friday, Saltiel Shinoxingi (34) died after being slapped in the face and subsequently falling to the ground.

A 34-year-old suspect had slapped him with an open hand. Shinoxingi fell, got up, and went outside, where he collapsed and passed away. The suspect has not been arrested yet because the post-mortem investigation is still ongoing. The incident occurred on Friday at 00:40 in the Adolf informal settlement in Ongwediva.

On Friday at 15:00, a two-year-old girl died after being hit by a vehicle in the Oshiwana Penduka informal settlement in Mariental. The 71-year-old driver will appear in court today.

A Zambian woman (27) passed away on Saturday at 14:50 on the B8, approximately 65 kilometres from Katima Mulilo, after a rear tyre burst, causing the vehicle to overturn. She was a passenger in a Toyota Wish, which was transporting 10 people, including the driver, and their belongings in the seven-seater vehicle. The injured were all taken to the city hospital in Katima Mulilo.
