EFN announces change to winners

The Editors' Forum of Namibia (EFN) has announced a change in the winners of the 2023 EFN Journalism Awards held in Windhoek last week.
In the politics and public governance category, The Namibian’s investigative journalist Shinovene Immanuel was announced as the winner of the N$15 000 prize, seemingly omitting co-authors Mathias Haufiku and Tileni Mongudhi.
In a statement yesterday, the EFN said the error was brought to its attention.
"One of the winning stories, 'Esau's Betrayal', was incorrectly awarded to Immanuel as the main author, while it was written by Mongudhi, with additional reporting by Immanuel and Haufiku.
“The error occurred because the original entry was submitted to the adjudicators in a folder marked 'Shinovene'. However, a sub-folder indicated collaboration, and the submitted PDF of the original published article indicated Mongudhi as the main author, with additional contributions from Immanuel and Haufiku," the statement revealed.
Kosmos radio’s Yanna Smith scooped an award in the same category for her work on 'The Pitfalls of the Paradox of Plenty'.
