NIMT workers demand outstanding pay
Employees of the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT), the Namibia National Teacher Union and the Namibia Public Workers Union (Napwu) through their lawyers Metcalfe Beukes Attorneys have demanded that their outstanding salaries for December 2022 be paid.
It is alleged that NIMT failed to pay 172 employees their December 2022 salaries as well as third-party payments such as medical aid and pension.
"The late payment of pension contributions has several undesirable effects, including that members lose out on investment opportunities and interest they
would have earned, assuming favourable market conditions. It also resulted in members' fund credits accumulating at a slower rate and the inability to pay risk premiums, which may lead to termination of agreements by the risk-benefit providers," the letter stated.
