NEFF wants ‘useless bundle of joy’ Utoni recalled

Ogone Tlhage
The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) has demanded that President Hage Geingob recall labour minister Utoni Nujoma, saying he has served his purpose and is no longer useful to advance the interests of workers.

This follows a verbal altercation involving its economic commissar Michael Amushelelo and Nujoma over the former’s unannounced visits to companies over labour matters.

Amushelelo this week called Nujoma “useless” during a meeting held between the NEFF and the labour ministry. The meeting had been called for the parties to find a solution to workers’ plight, but was called off after the verbal altercation.

Bandwagon

Hitting out at Nujoma, NEFF said the labour minister had been wheelbarrowed into his position on account of his father, founding president Sam Nujoma.

“For far too long he has been aided to run on the bandwagon of his father’s name and never on meritocracy. He remains the same man that sold our land to foreigners. It is under his helm that Namibians continue to be molested by Chinese nationals; it is under his stewardship that we have a labour crisis in the name of international conventions,” NEFF deputy leader Longinus Iipumbu fumed.

Never worked for anything

The party further accused Nujoma of never having worked for anything and of only benefitting from his political status. The NEEF vowed to find a solution towards workers’ issues without the involvement of Nujoma.

“NEFF leadership will consider other avenues to engage the technical staff of the ministry to ensure that the plight of our workers and their issues are addressed,” Iipumbu said.

Workers’ rights would continue to be trampled on with Nujoma at the helm of the labour ministry, he added.

“It is through him that the architect of apartheid legacy of suppression and exploitation continues; therefore, we call on the president to call the bundle of joy to order by sending him home.

“He has passed his retirement age and proven to be capital-oriented as opposed to people-centred.”
