Woman accused of concealing birth granted bail

A 24-year-old woman accused of concealing the birth of her child was granted N$1 000 bail on Monday.
Vistoria Johannes made her first appearance before Magistrate Rosalia Andima at the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court. Andima postponed the case to 16 August for further investigations.
"In case of failure to appear in court, a warrant of arrest may be issued against you and your bail will provisionally be cancelled and forfeited to the State," she said.
Johannes elected to conduct her own defence.
According to an incident report provided by the police, the accused allegedly gave birth to a baby girl in secrecy in her room on 29 June and concealed the birth.
