‘Stone killer' under cross-examination
News in short
"She assaulted me and then I assaulted her too,” murder accused Jeremia Erwin Nowaseb testified in the Windhoek High Court yesterday during cross-examination.
"She started fighting with me. She pushed me and tried to strangle me. After that, she picked up a stone and started hitting me with it. I took the stone from her and hit her."
Although Nowaseb claims he hit his 20-year-old girlfriend, Christina Kooper, only twice with the stone, a doctor testified at the trial that he must have hit her at least five times to cause the injuries that led to her death.
Kooper died from a brain haemorrhage. She and Nowaseb also had a minor daughter.
The incident took place on 31 October 2020 in Aranos’ Nuwerus informal settlement.
"It was not my intention to kill her. I just wanted to do to her what she did to me," he testified.
Public prosecutor Ethel Ndlovu shot down this claim during cross-examination and argued that Nowaseb killed Kooper on purpose.
