Scissors murder: Afrikaner pleads not guilty
The trial of a man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death with scissors in 2019 began in the Windhoek High Court last week.
Rodney Afrikaner (44) pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder, read with the provisions of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act.
Afrikaner allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Patricia Hochobes (39), several times with scissors in her thigh and other places on her leg. She died due to blood loss.
One of the State's witnesses testified last week that Hochobes was breastfeeding their seven-month-old baby boy at the time of the attack. The incident took place in February 2019 in the Hakahana informal settlement.
Afrikaner chose to represent himself and did not provide the court with a plea explanation. He was refused bail after his arrest and is currently in custody at the Windhoek Central Prison. Afrikaner's trial continued yesterday and is expected to resume today.
