Pastor reportedly raped girl five times
...May have fathered a child with victim
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia pastor was denied bail yesterday.
Pastor Shivute Aipinge, who stands accused of raping a 15-year-old girl on multiple occasions, made a brief appearance in the Outapi Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Assistant Magistrate Selma Simon denied him bail due to the seriousness of the offence, and postponed the matter to 17 June 2024 for further police investigations.
Reading out the charges, state prosecutor Astride Hewicke told the packed court room that Aipinge is accused of having raped the girl on five separate days.
A pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (Elcin), he was based at the Okando parish when he committed the alleged crime. He was transferred to the Okahao parish in January.
DNA test
The rapes allegedly took place in Okando village in the Omusati Region’s Okalongo constituency between June 2020 and September 2022.
Aipinge also reportedly fathered a child with the victim.
Police in Omusati have confirmed that they will be conducting a DNA test to ascertain the legitimacy of the claims.
Aipinge was represented by Tangeni Nantanga from Kangumu Attorneys. Nantanga informed Simon that his client will bring a formal bail application once the assigned magistrate returns to office.
