#namsunnews Fishrotters fail in application against prison authorities

Kristien Kruger
The Fishrot defendants failed in their urgent application to challenge a decision by authorities to move some of them to other cells within Windhoek Central Prison.

The application by seven of the ten accused was struck off the roll this morning in the high court in Windhoek because the case does not meet the requirements for the application to be heard on an urgent basis.

They applied for an interim interdict to stop prison authorities from transferring five of them from the C section of the prison to another common part of the prison, where they will be held along with more awaiting trial prisoners.

The seven defendants who brought the application are Sacky Shanghala, Mike Nghipunya, James Hatuikulipi, Ricardo Gustavo, Pius Mwatelulo, Ofonyatneel Shuudifonya and Phillipus Mwapopi.

The prison authorities moved Hatuikulipi, Nghipunya, Gustavo, Shuudifonya and Mwatelulo from the prison's C section to another unit at the beginning of May.
