#JustIn: Amushelelo & Co acquitted
Activist Michael Amushelelo is expected to be released from custody after he and his co-accused, Dimbulukeni Nauyoma and Inna Hengari, were found not guilty on charges related to a protest on Independence Day against youth unemployment.
The three defendants were acquitted after they made an application under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Act. This section of the Criminal Procedure Act stipulates that a defendant can be immediately found not guilty on charges if a judge or magistrate at the end of the state's case feels there is no compelling case against the defendant.
During their trial, the state called several witnesses, all members of the National Police Force.
