JUST IN: Court bans 'Kings of Uukwambi' commemoration event planned for this weekend
The Windhoek High Court has issued a court order interdicting and restraining members of the Uukwambi Traditional Authority from declaring 15 August, or any other day, as a commemoration day to honour all previous royal heads of the community.
They are also ordered not to hold the 'commemoration of the kings of Uukwambi' event scheduled to take place on 16 to 17 August at Okashana ka Abed Kandongo, Elim, Oshikuku district. They must also desist from making any further announcement that the event will take place and must immediately stop all the preparatory steps and processes in respect thereof.
The order follows an urgent application brought by the Uukwambi Traditional Authority and Uukwambi chief Herman Iipumbu, who alleged that the event was unauthorised and would cause disunity and disturb the peace and welfare of its members.
