Beefcor: Foreign company withdraws salmonella claim

A foreign company which had accused Namibian meat supplier Beefcor of selling beef contaminated with salmonella has withdrawn its lawsuit in the Windhoek High Court.

GPS Food Group, which distributes meat products in Europe and Norway, filed a claim worth N$2.4 million against Beefcor, in which it claimed the latter sent it contaminated meat in February 2022. Judge Herman Oosthuizen ordered GPS to cover Beefcor's legal costs.

Beefcor, through its legal representative Chrissie Turck, emphasised the importance and quality of meat exports from Namibia. "The effective functioning of export abattoirs is critical to Namibia's economy and farming community. Beefcor ensures that it prioritises compliance with export regulations at all times to ensure that Namibian beef receives the highest prestige overseas. Beefcor has also learnt that the value of a reliable partner overseas is just as important as the daily management of the abattoir.”
