THE WORLD GOES BANANAS
THE WORLD GOES BANANAS: An artist named Impro has taped bananas around the Berkshire village, mimicking Maurizio Cattelan’s artwork 'Comedian', which sold for US$6.2 million last November. Impro jokingly claims his banana masterpieces are worth £24.8m and could fund the new church roof for local churchgoers.
'Comedian' is a 2019 artwork by Italian artist Cattelan. Created in an edition of three, it appears as a fresh banana affixed to a wall with duct tape.
Number two of the limited edition of three was sold to cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun in November. Soon afterward, he ate the banana onstage, comparing it to a crypto asset.
The piece and one of its sisters had previously sold for US$120 000 each at Art Basel Miami Beach to significant media attention. The third edition was donated to the Guggenheim Museum.
