Peace in the Middle-East
President Nangolo Mbumba's office this morning welcomed the ceasefire agreement regarding Israel's war on Gaza.
"I welcome the ceasefire announced by Qatar, which is an extremely important and long-awaited moment for the occupied people of Gaza, who are enduring painful suffering," said Mbumba.
The agreement was announced yesterday, 15 January 2025, by the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.
Hamas and Israel have agreed that Israel's military will withdraw from Gaza, and Hamas will release all Israeli hostages.
Since 7 October 2023, residents of Gaza have been experiencing horrific atrocities that have resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of innocent lives, unprecedented destruction of civilian infrastructure and blatant violations of international humanitarian law, the Namibian president said.
"The ceasefire is an opportunity for the people of Gaza to return to their land and begin the process of rebuilding their land. More importantly, I hope that the ceasefire will open a new opportunity for lasting peace in the Middle East," Mbumba said.
