Swakop’s swift road repairs after rains earn public praise
In the wake of relentless rainfall that recently left roads flooded, stormwater drains blocked and potholes widespread across the town, the Swakopmund municipality earned praise for its rapid response.
As soon as the downpour subsided, municipal workers were deployed – even working through the night – to repair damaged roads, remove debris and restore order to affected areas.
"We are committed to returning the streets of our beautiful town to their former glory," said municipal public relations officer Linda Mupupa this week. “The works department have their boots on the ground and their gloves on their hands to ensure that debris is cleared, drainage systems are restored and public spaces are safe and clean once again.”
Mupupa also acknowledged the role of local contractors: “A big shout-out to all the contractors who have been on the ground with our team, providing manpower and equipment to speed up the recovery efforts. Your dedication and support are truly appreciated.”
In addition to road repairs, the municipality reported that its teams had been clearing blocked drains, sweeping streets, blading gravel roads, compacting surfaces and inspecting the sewerage infrastructure for storm-related damage.
“Well done with taking immediate action,” wrote local resident Wikus Juan Engelbrecht.
Another resident, Celia Aggenbach Olivier, added: “Thank you, Swakopmund municipality!! I think you are doing a great job. Thanks to all the guys working over the long weekend.”
