World Blood Donar Day: do your part
#NamSunNews #NamBTSDay
In commemoration of World Blood Donor Day, the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS), in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), is hosting six blood clinics today.
Four of them are located in the capital: Ausspannplatz, Channel Life Centre, Maerua Shopping Mall and Namib Mills.
Residents of Oshakati can donate blood at the L. Lenza Institute, and residents of Walvis Bay can donate blood at Dunes Mall.
NamBTS, WHO, and the health ministry, in a joint statement, highlighted a shortage of blood supply that is particularly noticeable in low- and middle-income countries. According to NamBTS, at least 170 units of blood are needed to meet the demand for blood transfusions.
NamBTS has recently started accepting plasma donations to alleviate the strain on the blood supply. Blood plasma can be used to treat conditions related to blood clotting.
The statement also said the three organisations will utilise World Blood Donor Day to raise awareness about the importance of blood donors' health.
