In an effort aimed at improving local healthcare service delivery, the Namibia Institute of Pathology (NIP) has announced the acquisition of 18 new vehicles dedicated to specimen transportation.

The 18 vehicles were acquired at a total investment of just over N$11 million, inclusive of repairs and maintenance, over a four-year period.

Kapena Tjombonde, chief executive officer of the NIP, emphasised the significance of the investment as it will yield efficient specimen transportation, facilitating the accurate delivery of healthcare services.

"With these new vehicles, we aim to streamline our specimen transportation process, reduce transit times and uphold the integrity of all specimens during transit."

Tjombonde further highlighted the proactive nature of the multimillion-dollar investment, noting its alignment with NIP's commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.

She also expressed confidence that the new vehicles would not only address existing challenges in specimen transportation but also significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of NIP's services.

"Before the acquisition of the new fleet, NIP owned a total of 40 vehicles and with the addition, it brings the total to 58 cars," NIP's chief strategy and business development officer, Niita Evaristus, revealed to Namibia Media Holdings.
